The Man in the Games Maker Uniform and the inspiration to us all Mr Eddie Izzard
Unlike “The Stig” I didn’t just materialise on this planet and therefore you may be asking where did he come from? To answer that, here is my who am I page.
I have over 30 years experience in both industry and the performing arts. I am a trained actor and my years in industry have been based mainly around customer service, working with some of the world’s most distinguished car manufacturers including Saab, Jaguar and Aston Martin.
This customer service experience has allowed me to work with, and work for, people from all walks of life. As such I am equally at home with those at the sharp end, the shop or workshop floor, as I am with dealing with celebrity, senior politicians and even royalty, all of whom I have had the experience of serving directly.
When not being a Toastmaster and London Master of Ceremonies my day job is split between being a professional event host (a Toastmaster without “the suit”), a presentation and public speaking skills trainer and voice coach, a professional voice artist and a Dad to my young daughter (by far the most difficult of all).
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. I love the cinema and theatre, travelling, skiing and I still have a big interest in classic cars which I have an encyclopedic knowledge of vehicles produced between the late fifties until around 2010. So if you have and old car and you need advice on how to look after it, then give me a call. All those years at Aston Martin are not to be wasted.
One of the things that gives me the biggest kick is seeing those I work with grow in confidence and succeed. It was with this in mind that in 2012 I worked as a volunteer Games Maker for LOCOG in the role of team leader for the transport department at the London Olympic & Paralympic Games’.
I was immensely proud to be a “Games Maker” and I had enormous fun working with and guiding some great people, all of whom wanted to help make the London 2012 games the best ever and to see this country at its best. I also drove some fascinating people from all walks of life, including royalty, medal winners (past and present), sports commissioners and many who were involved with supporting the games, all of whom were great company for the short journeys we took together.
The Beadle to the Marketors
Finally for this section about “who am I”, in my role as a London Master of Ceremonies I am also a City of London Livery Beadle for four of the City’s Livery Companies. The Worshipful Companies of Marketors, Fan Makers, Tin Plate Workers alias Wire Workers of the City of London and the Furniture Makers. This role is mainly ceremonial but includes many of the vital skills of a Toastmaster. Additionally, I am also Beadle to one of the Guilds seeking Livery status, The Guild of HR Professionals. Finally I act as Toastmaster to various other City institutions, such as some of the Ward clubs and the City Livery Club.
